Linda Kosut, a smoky contralto, is a stylish, moving and
entertaining performer. She is best known for her unique stylings of jazz
standards and pop tunes. Linda’s passionate and interpretive skill with
lyrics and the “story” song is evocative and compelling.

Linda’s award winning debut solo CD, “Life is but a dream,” was selected as one of the top female vocalist CDs of 2003 by Stu Hamstra, Cabaret Hotline Online in New York. It is available at www.CDBaby.com/cd/kosut. The common thread in this collection of songs from folk-rock to jazz standards, from Randy Newman to Dave Frishberg to Rogers & Hart, is Linda's styling, phrasing and emotional connection to the lyrics. A pleasurable and listenable CD.
Linda has appeared in many San Francisco Bay Area jazz & cabaret venues including the prestigious Empire Plush Room, the legendary underground nightclub The Purple Onion, the Zingari Lounge at The Donatello Hotel, Cosmopolitan Café, Café de la Presse, Club Jazz Nouveau, Café La Note in Berkeley, in Napa, CA at Copia and the Rainbow Room at the Depot, and Slate’s Supper Club in Walnut Creek. She can often be heard with San Francisco piano greats such as Max Perkoff, Ken Muir, David Austin, Jason Martineau and Barry Lloyd.
A native New Yorker, she is a 1990 Fellow of the Cabaret Symposium of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut, and a former student at New York’s Actor’s Institute.
Linda is a founding member of the cabaret vocal group The Kitchenettes, who have performed all around the Bay Area and were the only U.S. (and female) performers at the National Festival of Comic Songs & Songwriters in Boario-Terme, Italy. Kitchenette Productions also produces Live at The Purple Onion, a monthly open mic; The New Stars of The Purple Onion, a quarterly showcase series presenting new and up-coming jazz & cabaret stars; and Thick Tuesdays, a monthly cabaret performance workshop, as well as the CabFab -a Confabulation for Singers – a master class in collaboration with four coaches, intended to bring a singer to their next level of performance.
