Philanthropy Technology & The Performing Arts

Curtis Stigers is an artist with all the ingredients for stardom; good looks, good body, charm, intelligence, a beautiful voice and a savvy grip on the material he chooses to shower upon his audience. His voice is rich and expressive and is at the core of his new CD “Secret Heart” on Concord where he also delivered the well-received “Baby Plays Around.” Stigers poignant interpretation of Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith’s ‘Secret Heart’ from whence the CD title came is typical of the sensitive and soulful treatment this artist brings to well crafted ballads. Stigers succeeds at restyling the Steve Earle song “Hometown Blue’s” into a swinging freestyle parody of a rave up. Curtis Stigers hails from the heartland, Idaho specifically, and there is a scrubbed, fresh and earnest sincerity that accompanies his striking appearance and sex appeal. As a teen in Boise the artist apprenticed with the late bandleader Gene Harris, who performed with jazz legends like Stanley Turrentine and Nat Adderly, and these early influences carry through today in his work. Stigers was discovered in the late 1980’s playing at Wilson’s in Manhattan and signed by Arista where he debuted his self titled first album which was a hit and led him to regular appearances on ‘Letterman’ and ‘Tonight’ and touring with artists like Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt and Rod Stewart. Included in that first release was his own “I Wonder Why” which became a top ten hit. His second release was ‘Time Was’ which took him further into pop and soul and a major success for his part in the Nick Lowe song included on the soundtrack to ‘The Bodyguard’, which became one of the best selling recordings in history. Stigers sought freedom from the noose of being pigeon holed to pop music and repeating only what had brought him success so far. He changed labels, and began working with artists like Al Green, Jules Shear and Carole King where he again was a great success and expanded his range. An accomplished saxophonist and songwriter who also possesses a great voice and artistic curiosity with a string of commercial successes like Curtis Stigers has the power to take his audience places they seldom go without being prodded. Curtis Stigers is currently touring and has appearances scheduled in San Francisco at The Plush Room where his great talent and the elegant beauty of this great venue will join together to bring audiences fortunate enough to grab seats, a truly remarkable evening of superb nightclub entertainment they will long remember. Some of his repertoire currently on parade includes lush renditions of "My Foolish Heart," "Living Without You," and "You're Driving Me Crazy."
